Famous and Unique : MaeKlong train market, Thailand.
Travel north Thailand

Markets are very local everywhere around the world however not many of them are very interesting to see and visit. In Southeast Asia, Thailand is one of the outstanding destinations where you could find the local markets which are very interesting to experience and to visit. You may have heard about the floating market of Thailand called Damnoen Saduak (The efficient water channel) where the locals use boats and carry their products such as fresh vegetables, fruits, food or something else to sell along the canals which go through the village area. This might be common as you could also find in some other places. Today we are going to tell you about the MaeKlong Train Market in Thailand.
This market is located in Samut Songkhram province which is about 92 kilometers by car from Bangkok. If you have time and prefer to enjoy driving and stop seeing things on route it would be a wonderful site to see the local life here in MaeKlong area, Samut Songkhram. However the highlight of this market is going on the local train starting from WongWianYai Train Station and continuing the train ride to Mae Klong Market for you to get the atmosphere of the local transportation with the local people or you could also catch the train half way at Ban Lam Station to continue the journey to the market as before you reaching MaeKlong train market, you can also see and enjoy the beautiful view along the railroad too.
Why is this market interesting to visit while you are in Thailand? Because the locals here still keep their way of life as it used to be in the old days. As once the train ride reaches the market area. It would reduce its speed and slowly move through the railroad which cut into the middle of the market. The train ride is going through the small gaps where the locals still have their products set beside the railroad. The vendors would only move the shop canvas awnings to make way for the train to get to its station. This would take around 5 – 10 minutes. It is an exciting site for you no matter if you are on the train or even standing near by the railroad in the market area to get some nice shots of this incredible train market. Once the last train carriage passes the shops, the canvas awnings are going to move back to their positions like nothing happened. This is so amazing to see. Also the view when you are on the train itself and the view when you are in the market and standing beside the railroad when the train slowly moves through the market give you different views and of course the angle for you to take photos.
You could also catch the ride on the train or drive in to visit. However in our opinion if you travel by car it would save time, but you will miss the atmosphere. Also you have to find the parking and walk to the market which you could miss the highlight as the train to MaeKlong Market or Talat Rom Hup Market 8 times a day for you to choose and pick from 6:20am/8:30am/9:00am/11:10am/11:30am/2:30pm/3:30pm and 5:40pm. Make sure that you are on time to see the train through the market as we don’t want you to miss the highlight. After the train passes through the market, it will stop at the station for a while before continuing the ride backward to the station in Bangkok again. This ride continues back and forth to connect the people in the local area from Bangkok or along the railroad with the market to hop on and out for shopping and to connect them with their families. MaeKlong Train Market is one of the great spots to visit when you have a chance to travel Thailand.
