Sichang Island. Chonburi Thailand.

Sichang Island.

For those who do not have a lot of time and do not want to waste it by traveling to the famous islands of Thailand which are usually further away, there is a very good option to choose. A beautiful small island called Koh Sichang, located about an hour and a half from downtown Bangkok. It can be either day trip or stay overnight on the island, depending on one’s preference. Again, this island is known among the Thai people so not so many foreigners go there.

To go there, buses leave for Sri Racha town (or take the Rayong or Pattaya buses and get off at Sri Racha) leave frequently from Ekamai Bus Terminal. Another option is taking shared minivans from Victory Monument. Once arrive at Sri Racha (the same name as the famous chili sauce) find your way to the pier and take the boat across to the island which takes around an hour to get to there. The main town on the island is not as developed as other islands in Thailand but there are shops, restaurants, cheap hotels and guesthouses, enough facilities for guests visiting it. To get around this island, one can rent motorbike and explore by him or herself. Or, use the local motorbike taxi that the driver can take you to different interesting spots around the island for half a day to full day tour.

There are many attractions one should not miss. The first one is the Chinese temple on the hill with great view of the town below. Not just the religious site itself but it has a nice cave too. Thai people believe that praying to the gods and Buddha there the wishes would come true.

Continue to the other side of the island, there is a perfect spot for viewing sun set. There is a bridge going along the cliff side designing for the pleasant walk. Those who love taking photographs would love this spot a lot.

Another place relates with a part of the history of Thailand which is the former summer palace built by King Rama V of Jakkri Dynasty and is the only palace built on the island, quite a nice place to see too.

And, of course, there is a small 300-meter-long beautiful beach to chill out, eat tasty seafood and other Thai dishes, or simply enjoy swimming in the crystal clear warm sea water.

Koh Sichang Island might be small, but it has a lot to offer and is highly recommended!
